Weekly Nerd News: September 9
by Haylee Fisher (@haylee_fisher)
Have you fallen behind on your nerd news? Don’t worry; we’re here to help! Here are a few stories to bring up at the water cooler this week:
In honor of the upcoming Thor: The Dark World, the title character will be appearing at Disneyland to promote the movie. The park did a similar exhibit when Iron Man 3 opened this past summer, called Iron Man Tech Presented by Stark Industries, which gave fans a closer look at Tony Stark’s armor and the chance to virtually “suit up” in the Mark 42. More details about Thor’s arrival to Disney will be released closer to the movie’s opening.
Marvel will soon be introducing a JARVIS app to coincide with the DVD release of Iron Man 3. Paul Bettany will be the voice of JARVIS, reprising his role from the movie. The app will feature bonus content, plus will function as an alarm clock, access local weather, post to social media and more. It comes out September 10.
Katee Sackoff is reportedly in talks to play Captain Marvel. Details are scarce as the discussions are still in preliminary stages, so the role could be the lead in a standalone movie about the superhero or even an appearance in The Avengers: Age of Ultron. Who knows at this point, but I will be sure to update if this casting comes to fruition.
In yet more Marvel news, Stan Lee will now be a playable character in the Lego: Marvel Super Heroes video game. There aren’t many details yet, but check out a trailer that previews some of his character’s skills here.
Microsoft is expanding its Xbox Music service by launching a streaming service app. It will be available for mobile using both iOS and Android and web streaming will be free. The service was previously only available to users of Windows powered-devices. Listeners will be able to receive unlimited access to the app through the Xbox Music Pass, which costs $9.99 per month or $99.99 per year.
Rumor is Sony will be coming out with a virtual reality headset to go with its new PlayStation 4. It is being reported the headset will be announced at the Tokyo Game Show at the end of the month and that it will be sold separately from the gaming system. The PS4 will be released November 15.
