Weekly Nerd News: January 20

Have you fallen behind on your nerd news? Don’t worry; we’re here to help! Here are a few stories to bring up at the water cooler this week:


The release of Batman vs. Superman has been delayed ten months. It will now come out in 2016. Warner Bros. said in a statement that the move comes to “allow the filmmakers time to realize fully their vision, given the complex visual nature of the story.” The studio has now shifted an as-yet-unnamed Peter Pan movie into Batman vs. Superman’s previous slot.


The Agent Carter television series is a go. ABC confirmed the news at their Television Critics Association press tour last week. Former Reaper writers and showrunners of ABC’s upcoming Resurrection Tara Butters and Michele Fazekas will also oversee the series. The show is inspired by the Agent Carter one-shot from the Iron Man 3 DVD and will take place a year after the events in Captain America: The First Avenger and follow Carter as she starts her career as an Agent. Hayley Atwell will star.


In other ABC/Marvel property news, Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD has scored another fun guest star in Jaime Alexander. That’s right, Lady Sif will make an appearance in the show’s 15th episode. Her role is said to be integral and she is shooting it now. It was also revealed at TCA that viewers will find out who the Clairvoyant is later this season.


Sailor Moon fans, your wait is almost over. The series reboot that was supposed to happen last summer and then this winter will finally be released in July. The show will air simultaneously worldwide on streaming program Niconico where it will be subtitled in ten languages. No specific date has been announced but we will keep you posted.


Disney has confirmed they are working on a Frozen stage musical after the movie has become such a huge hit. It has not been specified, however, whether the show will be bound for Broadway or will be a theatrical attraction at a Disney park. No time frame for its release has been announced.


Magic: The Gathering is coming to the big screen. 20th Century Fox has teamed up with Simon Kinberg, a writer on the X-Men movies, to create and produce a film series based on the popular game. The studio is looking to launch a franchise on a Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings scale. Magic was originally released in 1993, but it’s still to far out to determine when the movie will come out.


Watch out, Avengers, there’s another villain coming your way. Not only will they face off against Ultron in the sequel coming next year, but Thomas Kretschmann has just been cast as Baron Wolfgang von Strucker, a high-ranking officer in HYDRA. The Avengers: Age of Ultron hits theaters May 1, 2015.


Wally West is will be re-introduced into the DC Comics family in through the New 52. Barry Allen, the current and original Flash, will get a new creative team of writers and then follow a more procedural storyline in The Flash No. 30, out April 23. A week later, West comes back in The Flash Annual No. 3.
