Have you fallen behind on your nerd news? Don’t worry; we’re here to help! Here are a few stories to bring up at the water cooler this week:

Try to contain your flail, Sherlock fans. A trailer teasing series three has finally been released and it features plenty of new footage to whet your appetite. The show will pick up two years after the events in “The Reichenbach Fall” with John moving on in life and love and Sherlock thinking all will be just as he left it. But he’ll be in for a big surprise when the show premieres in the UK on January 1! Check it out here!

In other Sherlock news, it has been announced a mini-episode will air on Christmas Day via the BBC’s interactive Red Button service. According to the synopsis, “Sherlock Holmes has been gone for two years. But someone isn’t quite convinced he’s dead…” So what exactly will be involved? And what cast members will be present? Those details haven’t been revealed yet, but be sure to watch the episode, titled “Many Happy Returns,” available in intervals between December 25 and New Year’s Day, to find out!

Disney has now taken the reigns from Paramount Pictures regarding the Indiana Jones franchise and will now oversee any future films. However, Paramount will still retain the rights to the first four films and will receive compensation for any future sequels. This announcement comes as Disney has completed its acquisition of Lucasfilm for $2.21 billion.

Magneto will soon be getting his own solo comic books series. To be written by Cullen Bunn (The Sixth Gun) and illustrated by Gabriel Hernandez Walter (Astonishing X-Men), it will center on Magneto “going his own way and playing by his [own] rules.” It comes out in March as part of Marvel’s “All-New Marvel NOW” initiative. The story will delve into his backstory, plus explore his relationship with his children while attempting to eliminate threats to mutantkind.

Could Doctor Who be picking up a secondary companion in series 8? Rumors persist that actor Tristan Beint, who appeared in the 50th anniversary special as schoolteacher Tom, will join Jenna Coleman and Peter Capaldi in the TARDIS. If you’ll remember, Tom was the person who alerted Clara to The Doctor’s return at the start of the episode. Only time will tell if this turns out to be true!

Gal Gadot has been cast as Wonder Woman in the upcoming, as-yet-untitled “Superman vs. Batman” movie. She is best known for her role in the Fast and the Furious franchise and was last seen in the series’ sixth installment. It’s also rumored other members of the Justice League, including the Flash, will make an appearance in the film which comes out July 17, 2015.

Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition will soon be coming to Playstation 4 and Xbox One. New details to the game include improved physics and a redesign to Lara’s head. The package will also contain all previously available DLC like multiplayer maps and skins. It will be released January 28, 2014.

The next generation USB plugs will be the best yet. That’s because they will not only be smaller, but they will be reversible as well. That means no more failing to put the drive in properly because it’s upside down! The upcoming connector is said to be the size of micro-USB plug and will feature new elements such as scalable power charging and support data rates nearing 10 Gbit/s. The plug will likely be finalized in mid-2014.
