Versus: Dr. Manhattan vs. Wolverine

By (@comicsonline)

What is Versus? Versus is a 26 Character Single Elimination Bracket. We will feature a new pairing each week till we reach the ultimate champion!

Dr. John Osterman aka Dr. Manhattan

Strengths: teleportation, telekinesis, invulnerability to nearly every threat or harm imaginable. Dr. Manhattan has the ability to: exist in a vacuum, manipulate matter on atomic and subatomic levels, exist without food, air or water, and he’s a generous lover.

Weaknesses: Two (one theoretical, one practical): shortly after the accident that thrust his god-like powers upon him, Dr. Osterman became increasingly apathetic to humanity and by extension, human social mores and norms. This is clearly reflected in his refusal to wear clothing or even to do away with his superfluous genitalia. Having a (sometimes) massive blue beanbag could present not only a fairly large and comically obvious target, but one which theoretically, if bludgeoned, could cause him pain.
Dr. Osterman experiences the past, the present and the future concurrently, making him nearly omniscient. Adrian Veidt, however, did cloud Osterman’s omniscience with tachyons, showing conclusively that his sentience is at least marginally fallible.

Famous Escapes: Dr. Manhattan can manipulate all matter so he doesn’t escape so much as send others away by reorganizing their matter in a different location. However, as textually evinced he can at will reorder his own matter in another location, making him not only an extremely efficient travel companion, but a cost effective one as well.

James Howlett aka Logan aka Wolverine

Strengths: Superhuman strength, agility, and stamina, heightened senses, six retractable adamantium coated claws (snikt!), adamantium fused skeleton, and an accelerated healing factor that allows him to bounce back from nearly any wound, disease or toxin. Wolverine also possesses unearthly weapon and martial art skills and can, at will, hand out over 31 flavors of ass kicking, occasionally to entire armies when he’s feeling generous.

Weaknesses: Because his skeleton has been fused with adamantium, Wolverine is at a particular disadvantage against any being with control over metal (see battles with Magneto: specifically Uncanny X-men # 25). Also, it has been theorized that separating his head from his body could permanently end him.

Famous Escapes: Wolverine don’t run, bub. However, for a strategic retreat, see Wolverine #138 in which Wolverine escapes the insatiable hunger of Galactus!)

Hate to say it, but Wolverine is way out matched here.

  2. NatalieJanuary 22nd, 2013 at 4:45 am

I’m afraid its Wolerine everytime for me!

  3. RobertJanuary 22nd, 2013 at 11:43 am

Wolverine. Just because he probably wouldn’t be ashamed to ask for the help of some of his cosmic level powered buddies. And I don’t wanna see Dr. Manhattan blow through the competition.

  4. JuarhelaJanuary 23rd, 2013 at 1:18 pm

Gah – while I love Wolverine forever, Dr Manhattan would probably just dismiss him with a wave and send him halfway across earth.
Though Wolverine would just keep coming back…

  5. Seth VengalJanuary 23rd, 2013 at 3:09 pm

Although I love Wolverine, he’s far outmatched in this. He’d never be able to harm Dr. Manhattan. Manhattan would obliterate Wolverine’s atoms.

  6. nickJanuary 23rd, 2013 at 6:59 pm

This seriously isn’t even a question. One flick of the wrist and it’d be another Rorschach splatter. ouchhh…. not a heck of a good way to go.

  7. BytorJanuary 24th, 2013 at 8:27 am

    Doc will take this one.

  8. Tyler B.January 24th, 2013 at 9:47 am

Wolverine is effing awesome!…That being said, he would be crushed like an adamantium grape…you know, the kind of grape only Dr. Manhattan could crush…if he felt like it.

  9. Buzz FledderjonJanuary 25th, 2013 at 8:47 am

Yeah, this is a kind of an off balance match up. It’s kinda like pitting the Beyonder against that tough kid in 4th grade who would punch you in the dick for your lunch money. Blue bean bag indeed! Adamantium grape indeed!

  10. Kim KaneJanuary 25th, 2013 at 7:53 pm

While I do love me some Logan, Doc would knock the X-man and his buddies into oblivion. End of story.

  11. Jamie WallFebruary 13th, 2013 at 10:39 am

Wolverine cannot hurt Dr Manhattan. Manhattan would erase him from exsistance in less than a second!

  12. Allan TApril 29th, 2013 at 12:19 am

Come on people. We did not ask who was your favorite, we asked who would win. Dr. Manhattan outclasses Wolverine to such a degree, it is a ridiculous match-up. There is not one thing Wolverine could do to harm the good Doctor. On he other hand, Dr. Manhattan merely thinks Logan into non-existence and the battle is over.

  13. STICKMay 28th, 2014 at 1:31 pm

Manhatan is the most powerful of all, forever!. It is a god. You can create life, wipe out the world, etc. ….

  14. Dr D.November 17th, 2014 at 11:58 am

Not even a match – teleport Wolverine to the moon, which is easily within Dr.M’s powers- game over for Wolverine. Clear winner.

  15. joshuaMay 16th, 2016 at 6:28 am

Wolverine cuts Dr, M’s blue bean bag. SImple.
