Top Nerdy Ten: Power Rangers Edition

By Rachel Cheng, (@iamrachel)

Greetings, nerds! It’s time for another Top Nerdy Ten. Since I’m still feeling a tad nostalgic, I’ve decided to share my favourite seasons from a show that has a rather special place in my heart: Power Rangers. Yes to all the rainbow spandex! I grew up watching the show as a kid, watched the newer seasons with my younger cousins, and then watched the more recent seasons with my friends’ children. *cue Circle of Life karaoke jam*

10. Samurai/Super Samurai

The first season back after what was supposed to be the “last” season of Power Rangers. There was a sweetness to this season and a throwback to the original series with a new generation of kids sworn to protect the planet. Also, first female Red Ranger. Heck yes. It was long overdue.

9. Megaforce/Super Megaforce

Two words. Mega team-up. It was nice to see the familiar faces they brought back for the 20th Anniversary of the series. It was glorious.

8. Dino Thunder

Dinosaurs! They brought back the dinosaurs! They also brought back superstar ranger Tommy Oliver (Jason David Frank) as a high school science teacher.

7. Lost Galaxy

I remembered this season for making smart girls kick ass. Kendrix (Valerie Vernon) was my hero.

6. Wild Force

Forever Red. Enough said. The team up episodes with the Time Force rangers was epic too.

5. RPM

This was supposedly the final season of Power Rangers (it was the last in the hands of Disney) so the producers seemed to take more risks. The season was darker and grittier and way more fun.

4. Lightspeed Rescue

I wanted a Lightspeed Humvee and an Aquabase of my own. Out of all the Ranger HQs, the Aquabase is my favourite. Fun fact: this was the only season that had a completely American sixth ranger that wasn’t featured in the original Sentei Power Ranger universe, Ryan (Rhett Fisher) as the Titanium Ranger

3. SPD

The storylines of this season really set it apart, especially the different dynamics established within the motley crew of Ranger cadets. Also, I had a soft spot for the almost all Canadian cast.

2. Time Force

In terms of casts, they were my favourite. And they almost got a second season because the producers just loved the chemistry of this cast. Also, it featured one of the most badass sixth rangers, Eric (Dan Southworth) as the Quantam Ranger.

1. Mighty Morphin

Are you really all that surprised? The season that started it all. Jason, Zach, Billy, Trini, Kimberly, and Tommy. The original six or as Zordon put it “teenagers with attitude.” *gigglesnort*

I’d like to leave y’all with this unauthorized alternate universe Power Rangers short featuring James Van Der Beek and Katee Sackhoff that went viral earlier this year. If you haven’t seen it yet, you’re in for a treat 😉

‘Til next time,
