From the creative and apparently absurd mind of Ed Helms comes Tiny Commando, the story of a former Navy SEAL (Zachary Levi) who was accidentally shrunk down to four inches tall in an experiment gone wrong and his enemy Carlos Pequeno (Helms), who wants to take over the world. Tiny and his partner, the normal-sized Mitzi (Gillian Jacobs) take on bizarre cases along the way – which seem to be an excuse to show off radio-controlled vehicles and special effects used to make Levi look like he can actually fit in those vehicles.
Fans got a sneak peek at the series this summer at Nerd HQ in a panel with the cast and creators, which can be watched (or re-watched!) here. It received a great response and showed web content with a ridiculous premise can get people just as excited as a movie or TV show.
The series is broken up into multiple shorts and is easy to follow, which is great for people that may not have time to sit down and watch it all at once. Admittedly, it takes a little getting used to Levi’s gruff, almost John Casey-like voice and Helms’s awful Hispanic accent, but that’s part of the appeal. No one involved is taking themselves seriously – they know these scenarios are silly. But that’s exactly why it works.
It also features cameos from people like Chris Hardwick and Tim Heidecker, who undoubtedly signed on just to be involved in the fun. Because c’mon – where else can you be a part of a project that consists of snack cakes that blow up, an exploration of Mars, and flying lawnmowers all in the span of a few episodes?
Be sure to check out the hilarious Tiny Commando on Yahoo! Screen, starting with the first episode, titled “Snack Attack” that contains the aforementioned deadly snack cakes. It’s a great introduction that sets the tone for this action-packed and thoroughly entertaining webseries.
