Supernatural: I’m No Angel

By Noor Alnaqeeb (@nooralnaqeeb)

The episode begins with two priests confronted by a group of angry angels, looking to find their sworn enemy, Cas. This episode’s focus seemed to be Castiel attempting, and mostly failing to function as a human being. Equipped with fond memories of Meg and his angel blade, Castiel (AKA Heaven’s Public Enemy Number One) went under the alias of Clarence; Clarence who shares food with homeless people whilst philosophising about mortality. Clarence then, amidst all his confusion goes to sleep in a bus only to be found, attacked and harmed by an angel. In order to avoid another near-death experience, Cas gets the same anti-angel tattoo on him that Sam and Dean got in season five.

Speaking of Sam and Dean, they’ve finally decided it’s about time to find Cas and help him. Bartholomew, the televangelist trying to populate the Earth with angels, realises that the best way to find Cas is to hire Reapers to follow Sam and Dean. Bartholomew gets one of his staff to accept an angel into her soul… and she explodes. As you do.

In other news, Sam’s feeling better – according to Sam and the angel inside him that keeps rudely interrupting conversations between the brothers. Sam and Dean follow the angel death trail to find Cas/Clarence only to find out that Clarence is on his way to Detroit. So on their way they go, not before stopping for grub, finding the Reaper that’s following them, and torturing them for information. Meanwhile, in Detroit, Cas finds a sandwich, medical attention and some lovin’ all from the same woman, April. April, the reaper. Poor Cas, to have love snatched from his just as quickly as it showed up creepily in the rain. She then proceeded to torture him for information about Metatron and why the angels no longer have a home. Just in time and with a little help for Ezekiel, Sam and Dean burst in and try to save Cas at the last second. Cas has a Supernatural death (one where you die and immediately come back to life), again thanks to Ezekiel.

Back at the bunker, Sam questions Dean about everything that hasn’t added up; how they found Cas, how Cas was still alive, his whole “it just doesn’t make any sense, Dean” spiel. They’re side-tracked however by Castiel’s excessive information about what happened between him and the Reaper (pre-death match). Ezekiel surfaces to tell Dean that if Cas stays, he will leave; it’s unsafe for them due to Castiel’s “most wanted” status. So Dean tells Cas to leave and go back to struggling in the real world. Is it just me or does Ezekiel seem less trustworthy now?

Castiel did not get the same tattoo as Sam and Dean has.

I’ll be honest, I didn’t trust Ezekial right from the beginning. That may just be because the show has made me paranoid though!
