Remembering Bill Paxton

By: David Carner (@davidcarner)
This past Saturday, we lost Bill Paxton. Since the early 80s, Bill Paxton has appeared in over 60 movies and many television shows. Many people remember Paxton character as Chet Donnelly. Chet was a military school cadet and the main protagonist in Weird Science. Bill has appeared, and died, in a Terminator, Predator, and Alien movie. He has ridden in the Wild West in Tombstone, went to the moon in Apollo 13, and chased tornadoes in Twister. Bill has been nominated for over a dozen awards in his career, but more importantly, he was a good man. Since his death, twitter has been filled with tweets about Bill from his fellow actors and friends, and more times than not, they speak about the man more than the actor. He was also an inspiration to an entire group of people that very few people knew about until his film, Twister. Upon learning of his passing on Sunday, storm chasers in “Tornado Alley” entered in GPS coordinates to spell out B.P. Many of them said that Bill was responsible for them being meteorologists.
Bill was known for his supporting cast work, along with his main roles. In addition to the aforementioned Twister, Bill was the main character for five seasons of the HBO series Big Love in which he was nominated as the Best Actor during all five season for either the Golden Globe or Satellite Award. Bill is also the main character in the new series Training Day on CBS. He was nominated for an Emmy and a Screen Actors Guild Award in the Hatfields & McCoys mini-series, and nominated for a Golden Globe for A Bright Shining Lie.
Bill leaves behind his wife and two children. We here at Nerd HQ, would like to send our deepest condolences to the family. Thank you Bill, for over 30 years of film and TV. Thank you for coming into our living room or theater and entertaining us. You’ve been the hero and you’ve been the bad guy, but you’ve done them all well, and it is our loss for having you leave much too soon. I typically do memorable quotes during my episode recaps, but today, one stands out, so I leave you with it.
“Look at all the stars. You look up and you think, “God made all this and He remembered to make a little speck like me.” It’s kind of flattering, really.” – Morgan Earp, Tombstone

Thank you, Bill.
