While some people may have the FIFA World Cup, others have a different tournament – that is, the Quidditch World Cup. Inspired by the wizard game in the Harry Potter series, athletes all over the country have adapted the game for Muggle limitations and actually hold a Quidditch World Cup every year.

Filmmaker Farzad Sangari set out to capture the experience through his new documentary Mudbloods, which follows the underdog UCLA Quidditch team to the Fifth Annual Quidditch World Cup in New York City in 2011. Sangari came up with the idea for the film after catching a glimpse of Muggle Quidditch on campus one day when he was still a student and was naturally intrigued. He launched a successful Kickstarter campaign to finish the project, which opened last week at the AFI Docs Festival in Washington, DC. The film will get a VOD and theatrical release this October.
