Pre-Season Rewatch: Fringe

by Heather Mason of

If you’re not aware of Fringe, you’re not alone. The show has a very small (about three million per week) viewership, but remains one of the most unique shows on TV. Since season five will be its last, now is the perfect chance to catch up! Here are a few tips:

1. Avoid spoilers!

It’s tempting when you start a new show to just look up stuff on IMDB, fan sites, Tumblr, etc. Fight the urge! Some of the best twists in the show are shockers, and it’ll be worth it to wait.

2. Watch season one, but get through it as fast as possible

The show doesn’t really hit its stride until season two, although season one is still important for general set-up of the characters and their emotional journeys. It’s a great introduction to the show, but don’t linger too long. Seasons two, three and four will need more of your attention.

3. Pay attention!

It’s easy to get distracted by phones, computers, and more these days, but it’s super important that you pay attention when watching Fringe. Everything builds on each other and missing one minor thing can confuse you down the road.

4. Enjoy!

Fringe is one of the best sci-fi shows out there. Take your time to enjoy all of the strange and weird that it has to offer.

5. Watch the season five premiere September 28th on FOX!

Agreed! I watched part of the first season when it first aired, but it didn’t capture my attention enough. After hearing so many rave reviews over the past couple of years, however, I caught up this summer and now it ranks up there as my second or third favorite show of all time. It only gets better as the seasons progress. Can’t wait for the final season!

I have to note that it’s a must for Nerd HQ 2013 to have a Fringe panel. A must.

I love FRINGE!! =) I love the dynamics between everyone and their “Walternates.” I agree, super serialized and definitely needs you to pay attention. It’s a brain picker for sure. Immerse yourself in clever storytelling..
