New Toy Story Theory: Did Jessie Once to Belong to Andy’s Mom?

By Haylee Fisher (@hayleyfisher

A Toy Story fan has recently written a theory regarding Andy’s mom and Jessie’s previous owner that he says will blow your mind.

As background (as if you don’t remember), a girl named Emily used to own Jessie. When she outgrew toys, she gave Jessie away and the doll ends up in storage. But according to Jon Negroni, Jessie found her way to Emily’s son years later.

Negroni says the key piece of evidence is Andy’s hat. It’s reddish-brown with white laces and doesn’t match the plain brown hat Woody wears. However, it does match the hat Emily wears while playing with Jessie that is later seen on her bed. When Emily gets rid of Jessie, the donation box is clearly too small to contain the hat. So does that mean Emily kept the hat and passed it down to her son when he started playing with a cowboy of his own?

It only makes sense.

Negroni also mentions the timeline of events. It’s clear by the decorations in Emily’s room she grew up in the 1970’s. It would be a good estimation that’s when Andy’s mother grew up as well and would make the whole thing possible.

Doesn’t this sound exactly like something Pixar would do? They’re known for putting Easter eggs in their movies and this sounds like something right up their alley. As Negroni says, “We don’t know the first name of Andy’s mom. We don’t know Emily’s last name. We know that Emily’s hat and Andy’s hat are the same. We know that Emily is old enough to be Andy’s mom. We definitely know Pixar is perfectly capable of sneaking this in without being overt about it.”

If this theory is true, it not only gives Andy’s mom bigger significance than just buying him toys, but it means Emily and Jessie were reunited without knowing it. It gives Jessie a happier ending, which we know Disney and Pixar love!

So what do you think? Do you believe this theory?

The reasoning behind this theory is definitely supportive and makes a lot of sense. I believe it. Maybe it’s also why Andy’s mom seem to take a little bit better care of his toys when he grows out of them. I would hope this is true but if I sit here and keep turning the idea over in my mind I will start thinking about Jessie’s story and that Sarah Mclaughlin song and start crying like a baby. But it’s a good theory anyhow, it makes Jessie’s story seem a little less sad.

This is a fun way to think of the story. I totally believe it.

If you haven’t already seen it, you should look up “The Pixar Theory.” I’m pretty sure the same guy came up with both of these theories. The theory is that every Pixar movies exists in the same universe and they’re all connected. It’s pretty mind-blowing.
