Met Gala 2016 Highlights

By now, most people have seen at least a few of the highlights from Met Gala 2016. The official full name of this benefit is the Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Benefit, and this year’s theme was “Manus x Machina: Fashion In An Age Of Technology”. This extravaganza is held on the first Monday in May to raise money for the Costume Institute. This department is the only one at the Met responsible for funding itself. In this edition of Nerdy Fashion, I’ve compiled just some of the most eye-catching looks from the gala.

Gowns and Tuxes at Met Gala 2016

Emma Roberts (Tory Burch) – this look reminds me of Princess Zelda

Alicia Vikander (Louis Vuitton) – Futuristic Queen of Hearts?

Taylor Swift (Louis Vuitton) – A little Mad Max vibe here!

Bella Hadid (Givenchy) – I’m getting a bit of a Cruella DeVille meets Jessica Rabbit here

Emma Stone (Prada) – 300 for sure! Very stunning to say the least

Lupita Nyong’o (Calvin Klein) – Lupita definitely looks out of this world in only a way that she can

Dakota Johnson (Gucci)

Amber Valletta (H&M and Gianvito Rossi heels)

Blake Lively (Burberry) – What an Ethereal Goddess!

Chloe Grace Moretz (Coach)

Gigi Hadid (Tommy Hilfiger) and Zayn Malik – Looking very Winter Soldier

Zoe Saldana (Dolce & Gabbana) – Looking proud as a peacock, and rightfully so!

Hailee Steinfeld (H&M) – Puts me in mind of Lady Loki

Nicole Kidman (Alexander McQueen) – Looking very “Bewitching”…Sorry, I had to!

Nina Dobrev (Marchesa) – Looking like the “Belle” of the Gala

Kate Hudson (Versace)

Michael B. Jordan (Calvin Klein Collection and Giuseppe Zanotti shoes)

Emma Watson (Calvin Klein and PHYNE) with Paige Novick jewels – a firm believer in sustainable fashion Derek Blasberg for CNN writes, “In the case of the Met gala, this meant the majority of the fabric used was made from Newlife, a yarn made from 100 percent post-consumer plastic bottles; and the detailing on the bustier was made with organic silk and cotton” (CNN, 2016).

Emma Watson: Changing the world with fashion

“Luxury to me means peace of mind,” she said. Specifically, knowing that what she is wearing has been ethically sourced and produced. For the past few years, Watson has resolved that all of her red carpet appearances incorporate sustainable fashion.

I just had to save this gown for last:

Claire Danes (Zac Posen) – So Cinderella!

As if this gown wasn’t beautiful enough, just look at it with lights off! This gown is made from fiber optic organza!

This event started in 1948 by Eleanor Lambert is a high-fashion, star-filled event that would be extremely difficult– NAY! Impossible for simpletons like us to attend (it’s invite only, and there is quite an extensive waiting list to get on the invitation list) but it’s still fun to dream. I wonder what next year’s gala will have in store….

Stay Nerdy, my friends.
