Mystery Science Theater 3000 is on Kickstarter!

I can remember when I was living in Staten Island, N.Y., and a friend of mine would pick me up and we would hang out at another friend’s house in New Jersey. Some of the things we used to do were just talk, play board/videogames (I remember playing Doom for the first time), watch anime and sentai shows, and of course watch Mystery Science Theater 3000.

When I saw the show for the first time, I was hooked. I mean, how could you NOT be hooked on people making fun of goofy movies? I can still remember with clarity the Gamera movies and the theme song (“Gamera is really neat, he is filled with turtle meat, we’ve been eating gam-er-aaaaa”). Joel eventually left the show and Mike Nelson took over and then the show faded into obscurity. Nelson now has his own company he started called Rifftrax where they make fun of movies both popular and obscure.

But it isn’t the same.

There are conventions and all that, but I wanted more. I wanted to see more MST3K episodes, more bad movies, and more of those wacky robots Tom Servo and Crow T. Robot.

Now my prayers have been answered via Kickstarter as the Bring Back MST3K project has been started! Yes! You too can back a great show and get some great perks while you do so! The project has 25 days to go as of this writing and has already raised 1.8 million, but I think we can do better than that.

So if you are a fan of the show or bad movies in general, please check out the project here. I, for one, want to see this fully funded with the 12 proposed episodes and would do it if I had the funds, but I don’t, so that’s why I am writing about it instead. So go check it out and bring back a great show!
