Marvel Announces New Winter Soldier Comic

With as popular as the Winter Solider has become after the release of the Captain America movie sequel bearing his name, it was only inevitable that he would get more attention in the comic book world as well. And that’s exactly what’s happening after Marvel revealed an all-new ongoing series called Bucky Barnes: The Winter Soldier to be published this fall.

It will be helmed by two rising stars in the Marvel world, writer Ales Knot (Zero, Secret Avengers) and artist Marco Rudy (Marvel Knights Spider-Man, New Avengers Annual).

The comic will take place after Original Sin and is being described as “James Bond in space.” It will take Bucky away from Earth and as such, he will be able to interact with characters all across the Marvel universe. In an email to The A.V. Club, editor Wil Moss had this to say about the project:

“Bucky’s operating on an intergalactic stage now. The entire Marvel Universe is his playing field, from the depths of Limbo to the heights of Asgard, and everywhere in between. It’d be like if the James Bond movies suddenly had access to the characters and settings of all the other great film franchises. (You just know Bond wouldn’t have needed an entire fleet of X-wings to destroy the Death Star!).”

Bucky Barnes: The Winter Soldier #1 launches in October.
