Marvel Announces New Female Thor Comic

One of Marvel’s biggest superheroes is in for a major change this fall. Though few details accompanied the reveal, the comic book company debuted a new female Thor on The View this morning.

What is known is that original Thor is no longer worthy to wield Mjolnir and a woman will be taking his place. Whoopi Goldberg, The View’s moderator, made it clear this new Thor will be a god and not a goddess and the character won’t simply just be gender-swapped. In fact, in a press release discussing the project, series writer Jason Aaron (Thor: God of Thunder, Original Sin) emphasized, “This is not She-Thor. This is not Lady Thor. This is not Thorita. This is Thor. This is the Thor of the Marvel Universe. But it’s unlike any Thor we’ve ever seen before.”

The comic will be accompanied with art by Russell Dauterman (Cyclops). It debuts in October and is also noteworthy because it will be Marvel’s eighth female lead protagonist. Those behind the series hope to speak directly to the female audience, which has been largely ignored throughout the history of comics and hope to set a precedent for the future.

Ha! I bet this one is a total feminista! Well,it was time to see a woman character as a super-hero,full of muscles, fury and bravery. Not a bad idea!

If they ever make this a TV series or movie trilogy I think Yvonne Strahovski could play the female Thor. But I might be a little bias since I like her in Chuck and Dexter.

Um…I’m not sure how I feel about this. And to Greg…heck yes! But honestly, I was thinking about this last week, I’d want Yvonne Strahovski to play Black Canary if she were to show up in any of DC’s projects.
