Move over, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, because another 90s favorite is right on your tail.

It has been announced that a Power Rangers reboot will make its way into theaters on May 22, 2016. Though no director or casting has been announced, it is known that it will feature a story by Roberto Orci (Star Trek, Transformers, Sleepy Hollow), who is also serving as executive producer, with a script written by Zack Stentz and Ashley Miller (X-Men: First Class, Thor).

The Power Rangers originally gained popularity in 1993 with the Fox Kids TV series and two years later, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie hit the big screen. The new movie sounds like it will be a reintroduction of the characters, with Lionsgate noting, “The new film franchise will re-envision the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, a group of high school kids who are infused with unique and cool super powers but must harness and use those powers as a team if they have any hope of saving the world.”

What do you think of this Power Rangers reboot news? Are you excited? Or are you as unsurprised as I am that Hollywood is reaching for another nostalgic show after the success of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles at the box office last weekend?
