Level 7 Access: Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D

I have been holding my breath since the murmurs began that something like this would surface. A huge Marvel’s Avengers fan since a child, I was thrilled to find out that one of my favorite creative minds would be involved in this project that appears Post-New York in the life of S.H.I.E.L.D. Now we are just a few short days, hours, minutes, from the premiere of ABC and Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and I can’t contain my excitement.

Agent Phil Coulson is alive. As someone who has watched all of the Marvel movies and Phil Coulson tie them all together, I was devastated when he died a heroic death in the Avengers. However, I was determined to believe that he wasn’t really dead. In the movie, we hear Tony Stark mention a Life Model Decoy, so I just pretended that Coulson really had one of those. That this was all set up because Nick Fury said the Avengers “needed something to fight for.”

Coulson’s character adds a sense of humor to serious and stressful situations. He is the glue that binds our beloved heroes together. S.H.I.E.L.D is not your average team of superbeings; in fact, they don’t have any real super powers. They are extremely relatable young people with strong intellectual backgrounds. This is one of my favorite messages that S.H.I.E.L.D. provides. Anyone can be a hero. It’s a pretty unique concept to the superhero world. No longer do you have to be thrown into a toxic vat of green slime to become “super;” you can just be really good at something. If you have a specialized craft, you can help save the world.

All of these Ground Heroes, as I refer to them, are the brain children of Joss Whedon and his team. We have never heard of them until now. I think it is safe to say that Marvel has us Avengers fans intrigued. We are about to gain access to a new group that will encounter some new challenges. I’m interested to see the plot and characters develop, especially that of Skye, who has a background that is a complete mystery to S.H.I.E.L.D.

How is Agent Coulson alive? Will we get to see some of our favorite heroes appear in the series? What is S.H.I.E.L.D really like? I am hoping and praying that Marvel fans everywhere are not disappointed.

Now, will someone please grant me access to Level 7 already?!

Why does nobody remember that it was revealed in “The Avengers” that Coulson didn’t really die? After Nick Fury tells the Avengers that Coulson died and he shows them the blood-stained Captain America cards, all of the Avengers fly off to New York to save the day. As they are leaving, there is a scene between Fury and Maria Hill where she says that she knows that Coulson’s Captain America cards were in his locker (therefore he couldn’t have had them with him when he supposedly died). Fury then says that the Avengers needed something to fight for, so he let them believe that Coulson was dead.
