JK Rowling To Publish New Story About Dolores Umbridge on Halloween

I’ll let you decide whether this one is a trick or a treat.

On the treat side – good news! JK Rowling is publishing a new story diving deeper into the backstory of a character from Harry Potter’s world! However – and here’s the trick – it’s about one of Harry’s nemeses, Dolores Umbridge.

Umbridge was first introduced in the fifth book, Order of the Phoenix. In it, she was pure evil, taking over as Hogwarts headmistress and torturing Harry and his fellow students. She was later sentenced to life in Azkaban for her crimes against Muggle-borns.

According to an announcement on Pottermore, which is also where the story will be published, “Umbridge is not only one of the most malicious Potter characters, she is the only person other than Lord Voldemort to leave a permanent physical scar on Harry. [The story will provide] a rich, 1,700-word back story about Umbridge’s life filled with many new details, as well as Rowling’s revealing first-person thoughts and reflections about the character.”

This is not the first time Rowling has published exclusive short stories to Pottermore. In fact, she’s posted two just this year, one about a grown-up Harry Potter at the Quidditch World Cup and another about singer Celestina Warbeck.

Appropriately, the new content about Umbridge will be posted on Halloween. Because let’s be real, she’s even scarier than Voldemort himself, am I right?
