Harry Potter Play Coming to London in 2016

Not only is today the 18th anniversary of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone being published in the UK, today’s date will now also take on a whole new significance to the Potter fandom: JK Rowling has revealed a new Harry Potter stage play is coming to London next year.

Called Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, the play likely will focus on Harry’s early years with the Dursleys and possibly also dive into the lives of his parents, Lily and James, though no official plot announcements have been made.

What is confirmed, however, is the team behind the show. Rowling said on Twitter it is a collaboration between herself, writer Jack Thorne, and director John Tiffany.  Additionally, Sonia Friedman and Colin Callender will produce, and British singer Imogen Heap will provide the music.

It will be held at the 1,400-seat Palace Theater, previous home to Les Miserables, and tickets go on sale this fall on the play’s website.

In addition to Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, 2016 will also see the release of the film version of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, starring Eddie Redmayne.

What a time to be a Potterhead!
