Four Things We Learned from the Vikings San Diego Comic Con Panel

By: Patricia Thomas

No one does a panel quite like Vikings.

The San Diego Comic Con panel was missing a couple of key players that fans were use to seeing in past years. Tavis Fimmel (Ragnar) was killed off in the middle of last season and Clive Standen (Rollo) was unable to attend. That made for a much more subdued panel with Micheal Hirst, Katheryn Winnick, Gustaf Skarsgard, Alexander Ludwig, and Alex Hogh Anderson…

…Until a furry kangaroo approached the mic to ask a question. He was allowed to go on stage to get an autograph. There, his costume head was removed to reveal King Ragnar, himself, Travis Fimmel! The crowd leapt to their feet and blew the roof off of room 6BCF. But Fimmel was not done with his pranks – he read out Ludwig’s cell number to the crowd! Ludwig tried to get Fimmel’s phone, but Anderson wrestled him to the ground. You an always count on the Vikings panel to be a wildly good time.

Season Five puts Ivar and Headmund on a collision course.

With Ragnar in Valhalla, his remaining sons are heading out to make names for themselves. Ivar wants to avenge his father’s death at the hands of the Saxons. We got a brief glimpse of the warrior priest, Bishop Headmund, played by Jonathon Rhys Myers – a complicated unpredictable character played by an equally unpredictable actor. These men of the cloth believed in Christianity yet were not afraid to take up a sword and be brutal on the battlefield.

The Vikings travel further and further from home.

Bjorn continues his quest through the Mediterranean, where he trades in his long boat for a camel. According Ludwig, camels have really bad breath.

Floki is lost is many ways at the end of season four. He has lost all he cares about and is questioning his gods. He leaves on his own quest that leads him to Iceland.

Season Five Premiere Date

Season five will air 20 episodes starting November 29, 2017.

What about Season Six?

No official word, but writer Michael Hirst revealed he is working on scripts for a potential season six.
