Five Marvel Women Who Deserve Their Own Movie

By: Haylee Fisher (@haylee_fisher)

One of the biggest announcements to come from Marvel’s Phase Three unveiling was that Captain Marvel will be getting her own movie. With that, there has been much discussion about other women in the Marvel universe regarding who else deserves their own film. It’s no secret Black Widow is on many a list of that vein, but what about other, possibly less well-known women? There are certainly more than enough men in the current line-up; don’t the women warrant their time in the spotlight, too? Here’s a look at others in the ‘verse who could go it alone and usher in a new era of superhero movie making. Who would you add to this list?

Janet van Dyne AKA Wasp

In the comics, Janet van Dyne was a founding member of the Avengers. In the movies, she’s never even been mentioned. In fact, she’s not even a character in the upcoming Ant-Man film and she’s the eventual wife of Hank Pym! Van Dyne is smart and capable and is more than deserving of her own place in the Marvel cinematic universe. If she got her own movie, it would make up for the disregard shown to her thus far.

Jennifer Walters AKA She-Hulk

Jennifer Walters acquired her Hulk-like condition after an emergency blood transfusion from her cousin Bruce Banner. However, unlike Banner, she retains her personality and intelligence when she Hulks out. Walters is a lawyer who has served as a member of not only the Avengers, but other superhero teams as well, and has been known to help out her fellow superheroes when they need legal advice. Her story would make an engrossing movie and would be among the easiest to bring to the big screen because of her relation to an already popular character.

Kamala Khan AKA Ms. Marvel

Kamala Khan is a newer character in the Marvel world, having only been introduced a little over a year ago, but she has already made a big impact. She is a Pakistani Muslim from New Jersey with shapeshifting abilities who discovers she has Inhuman genes. With Marvel’s Phase Three lineup reveal including an Inhumans movie coupled with the fact that Khan adopts the codename Ms. Marvel from her idol Carol Danvers (Captain Marvel), it would only make logical sense to turn her story into a movie, too.

Kate Bishop AKA Hawkeye

Fan favorite Kate Bishop is a member of the Young Avengers and the first female to take on the Hawkeye name. She is a highly skilled archer who is sarcastic and stubborn and has been known to be quite the scene-stealer. She’s also known for her level-headedness, though, and her own movie would be a great way to dive deeper into her history. There’s room for two Hawkeyes in the comics, so why can’t there be two in the movies as well?

Ororo Munrow AKA Storm

Yes, Storm has already been seen on the big screen as part of the X-Men series, but she deserved better than what she was given. She is one of the most frequently seen and iconic members of the X-Men and in the comics has occasionally served as their leader. But in the movies, she acts as an almost secondary character, sometimes not even appearing in the film at all. She has a long and varied history and her storyline has been one of growth and even a marriage to T’Challa, AKA Black Panther, who is slated to get his own movie. If Disney were to get the rights to Storm from Fox, it would be perfect for her to have her own movie to show off her powers and it would be easier to tie-in her story to the already-established Black Panther one.
