Temple is produced by the same team that created The Akira Project, a live-action trailer based on the cyberpunk Japanese manga series AKIRA. Upon its May 2014 release, the trailer garnered more than 2.8 million views on YouTube.

Director Nguyen-Anh Nguyen looks to repeat his success with Temple. Now represented by 3 Arts Entertainment, Nguyen is developing Temple as his first feature film project. The short film will be launched online in June of this year. Nguyen and his team are banking on it doing well when it’s released, as they hope to get financing to eventually make Temple into a feature film.

“After the success of Akira, the team is producing Temple based on everything I loved,” Nguyen said about the project. Temple is a cyberpunk thriller that combines martial arts, dystopian science fiction, and a touch of manga, according to the short film’s official Facebook page. It stars Yue Qi and Osric Chau, the latter of whom gained quite the following after he played Kevin Tran in Supernatural from 2012 to 2014. Chau also starred in The Akira Project as the main protagonist, Kaneda.
