Battlestar Galactica: Blood and Chrome Episodes 7-8
by Ashley Binion
This week, Machinima released chapters seven and eight of the unaired pilot: Blood and Chrome. Last time, the trio of Adama, Coker, and Dr. Kelly crash landed on Djerba while transporting the doctor to finish her mission and in the process met marine Xander Toth.
Warning: Spoilers ahead!
The episode began with the gang, including new addition Xander Toth, taking shelter in a former ski lodge on the resort moon. According to Toth, the lodge was made into a storage unit for the Cylons.
Once they took shelter for the night, Dr. Kelly and Adama talked about the war and her deceased husband. Then they slept together. Apparently there is nothing like talking about war and her dead husband to set the mood.
Adama became restless and began wandering around the resort when he ran into Coker playing the piano. They had a nice bonding moment before an explosion went off and Cylons began to descend on the resort.
The pair went to find Dr. Kelly, but she wasn’t in her room. So, they decided to split up to cover more ground. Meanwhile, Toth was attempting to intercept the Cylons, but was shot in the process.
Honestly, I don’t know what Dr. Kelly was trying to do, maybe hide? But she wasn’t moving fast enough to look like she was trying. She ended up in a freezer where a Cylon cornered her. Something interesting happened when it cornered her. It scanned her dog tag a couple times and when it did so, a Cylon code appeared. Before it could finish reading the code, Coker came in at the last moment and saved the day. With that, they were off to check on Toth.
This is the first time the audience has gotten an up close shot of this version of Cylon. It didn’t look like any of the past Cylon models. It was more advanced than the versions in the original series and Caprica but more primitive than the model in the ‘04 series.
I felt the first episode was somewhat slow. This could be because for some reason I’m not buying into the Dr. Kelly and Adama romance. It seems somewhat rushed and unnecessary. I liked how they showed a tight shot of this Cylon model. With the different series within the franchise, it gives the audience an opportunity to see the evolution of the Cylon.
What did you think of the Cylon model? And what do you think of Blood and Chrome so far?
