Arrow Season 3 Preview

The CW has a bonafide hit on its hands with Arrow. The show has grown in both popularity and quality and is showing no signs of slowing down. Season 2 upped the ante in terms of action and storytelling culminating in the thrilling showdown between Oliver and Slade. But what’s to come in season 3? (Spoilers to Arrow and the comics below. You have been warned!)

The Big Date
Any fan of the comics knows that Green Arrow is going to eventually end up with Black Canary AKA Dinah Laurel Lance, but that doesn’t make rooting for Ollie and Felicity and less fun. What started with innocent flirting has built up to something fans have been wishing for. At San Diego Comic Con this year, it was revealed that “Olicity” will finally go on a date! How will it end? Probably poorly, but we can’t wait to see it.

The way Arrow mines the DC Universe for characters has been many a fanboy’s dream come true. This year a new recurring cast member has been added, and he is no stranger to tights. Brandon Routh has been cast as Ray Palmer, aka The Atom. The CW describes him as “An unparalleled scientist and inventor, Ray will play an unexpected role in the lives of Oliver and Felicity as the new owner of Queen Consolidated. Palmer’s plans for Queen Consolidated’s Applied Sciences Division will be shrouded in mystery.” It is also said that he will be a love interest for Felicity.

Roy has taken a long and rocky road to get where he is at the end of season two. After many trials, Roy is a masked vigilante trained by none other than The Arrow himself. And who didn’t that giddy feeling when Roy finally “Masked up” and joined Team Arrow in the confrontation with Slade’s MiraKuru army? Based on early promotional photos, Roy has traded the red hoodie for a full on super hero costume and is going by his comic book code name – Arsenal.

The Fastest Man Alive
This past Comic Con also brought us news of an Arrow/Flash crossover event. Arrow producers at Comic-Con on unveiled plans for a two-hour crossover event with The Flash, which is set to air this fall. “We’ll be seeing people from both shows crossing over,” said Andrew Kreisberg, an executive producer on both shows. The crossover will take place in episode 8 of both shows. And prior to that, episode 4 of Flash will see Felicity visit Central City.

The Demon’s Head
Manu Bennett’s Deathstroke was a top notch villain in season two. He had a great arc that started in season 1 and culminated in the final episode of season 2. What villain could possibly follow the mayhem wrought by Slade? The leader of The League of Assassins of course! Ra’s Al Ghul, famously portrayed by Liam Neeson in Batman Begins, has been announced as the big bad in season 3. What will The Demon’s Head have in store for our favorite archer? Only time will tell.

Daddy’s Girl
One potential new nemesis for Ollie in season 3 may come in the form of his own sister. At the end of season 2 we saw Thea hit the road with her long-lost Dark Archer father, Malcolm Merlyn. Has she taken a crash course in villain 101? This could make for an interesting wrinkle to the upcoming season, and nothing says drama like family issues.

Daddy Diggle
What else needs to be said? Diggle is a father. How will he balance his extracurricular activities with being a parent? Did the Suicide Squad just add a new member? This just got interesting.

Brave New World
Major changes are in store for the new season of Arrow. New cast members, love triangles, daddy issues, and the fastest man alive make for one jam packed season. Season 2 improved on season 1 in nearly every way. Can it be done again? My guess is yes, but I we will have to watch to find out. Arrow Season 3 premieres Wednesday October 8 at 8/7c on the CW Network.
