A Fan’s Guide to Picking Favorites: Episode 34, One Cat, Two Mouse-holes

By Shannon Fox, @shannonfox

Hello from California! That’s right, my dear readers, I’m still out on the West Coast after attending San Diego Comic-Con and Nerd HQ, which means that this recap will be a bit more brief than usual.  A girl’s gotta have a vacation once in awhile, you know what I mean?  But what a great podcast episode we were treated to this week, especially if you were lucky enough to be in San Diego for this year’s con (no matter how “meh” Razzle found it).  And even if you weren’t, you should’ve caught a lot of the best panel moments on the Nerd HQ livestreams!  So let’s dive right in, shall we?

You can catch this week’s episode on iTunes and Soundcloud.

This Week’s Guest:

Scott Porter! (@ScottPorter)

Scott is an actor that you probably know best from his work on “Friday Night Lights”, “The Good Wife”, “Caprica”, or “Hart of Dixie”.  Scott has also done quite a bit of voice acting, including the “X-Men” animated series, “Robot Chicken”, and the newly released “Batman: Arkham Knight” video game.  In addition, as Scott said on the podcast, it was announced at Comic-Con last week that he will be voicing the Scarlet Spider in the “Ultimate Spider-Man” animated series.  But most recently, Scott helped kick off The Nerd Machine’s first game show, “Geeks Who Drink”, on SyFy!  You can catch the premiere episode with Scott here, but be sure to tune into “Geeks Who Drink”, Thursdays at 11PM on SyFy!

Favorites of SDCC/Nerd HQ

There’s only one main category this week, and it’s just the guys’ favorite stuff of Comic-Con and Nerd HQ!  I was extremely fortunate to be in San Diego this year, so I can attest to the awesomeness of everything that was mentioned here (particularly Nerd HQ and its epic dance parties, but then again, I’m biased).

Random Notes from Shannon’s Brain

“Random Notes” are on vacation this week (as am I), but I wanted to give this week’s “Hey, You’re Awesome” award to everyone at The Nerd Machine (including two of our fabulous hosts, Kentucky and Zac), the Nerd HQ volunteers, the panel guests, and everyone else who helped make Nerd HQ 2015 as amazing as it was.  You guys were some hard-working WARRIORS.  A lot of money was raised for Operation Smile, which is the most important part of the event, but it was also a LOT of fun.  On behalf of the fans, thank you, everyone!

That’s it for this week’s recap!  Remember to subscribe to and rate the podcast on iTunes, and send YOUR favorites to @thenerdmachine on Twitter with the hashtag “#PickingFavorites”!

You can find our hosts all over social media:

THANK YOU SHANnon! Enjoy the rest of your vacation!
I was watching NerdHQ from home this year – was so thankful for the livestreams – and if there were a few hiccups, a good version of the panel was uploaded really fast, so thanks to the folks at IGN and The Nerd Machine for all they did around that! ❤️

There have been many “Picking Favorites” podcasts that I thought fantastic, but this….this is my absolute favorite.
    My. Fucking. Favorite.
I loved listening to Scott describe his fangirl moments, and once again proving that the celebs have just a good of a time as the fans do.
