A Captain America Body Paint Tutorial

By: Victoria Righthand (@nosilvernogold)

Hello! My name is Victoria Righthand and I have been doing makeup and body paint for just over a year. It’s a total passion of mine that I’m so eager to share with you through these tutorials. I grew up with a love of Halloween and dressing up, something I did frequently and elaborately. With sci-fi/fantasy movies, books, and TV shows as my inspiration, I delved into characters and worlds that were unlike my own. Dressing up felt like I was a part of that world if only for a moment and my life and its problems would disappear. I only moved into makeup and body paint after spending much of my life exploring any and all art forms, from drawing and paintings to pottery and leatherwork. Now I can create an entire costume and character with a brush and some paint and my body as my canvas. I’m so excited to share my love of this art through these tutorials for anyone who is as nerd-tastic as me and wants to try out body painting. I also hope that maybe some young girl out there who loves Captain America, zombies, or wielding lightsabers a little more than her classmates feels like it’s okay to be herself and find joy in doing so.

I decided to do this tutorial in particular because Avengers: Age of Ultron is coming out and I’ve become a huge fan of the Marvel world after growing up on DC characters. I’ve always loved the purity of right and wrong, the love of saving the world, and of having hope. I will have to do some characters from DC after my Marvel series, but Captain America was the perfect to start with. As Dr. Erskine says in Captain America: The First Avenger, “A strong man who has known power all his life may lose respect for that power, but a weak man knows the value of strength and knows compassion…whatever happens, promise me one thing. You will stay who you are, not a perfect soldier, but a good man.” The best way to describe Steve Rogers!
